Program

Every Expression, Every Purpose, Every Path Forward

Art evolves through practice. At SK's Artist-in-Training Program, neurodivergent artists create, earn, and grow— refining their craft, collaborating in a collective, and building sustainable livelihoods in a space where their work is seen, valued, and celebrated.

parent's role

Co-building futures with artists in residence

Parents Role
As young adults move toward careers in the arts, parents take on the role of encouragers, collaborators, and guardians of dignity: 1. Career Advocacy – Parents support artistic careers by helping students navigate financial decisions, contracts, and opportunities. 2. Emotional Anchoring – A safe, non-judgmental home environment strengthens resilience during creative highs and lows. 3. Showcasing & Celebrating – Parents participate in exhibitions, sales, and community events, helping build identity and confidence. Together, we build a culture of belief, where families stand behind neurodivergent artists as they step into visibility, agency, and livelihood.

why it matters

The Reality in India

76%–90%
of autistic individuals face unemployment globally
In India, 64% of people with disabilities are unemployed, and vocational training rarely includes professional art. The creative industry is unprepared to support neurodivergent talent—despite growing interest from families and the market.

How SK Fills the Gap

Our Artist-in-Residence program equips students with hands-on experience, paid commissions, and curation support to build sustainable creative careers. By integrating learning with real-world projects, we bridge the gap between education and employment—nurturing India's first neurodivergent artist collective.

Why choose Sense Kaleidoscopes?

Student story

Rohit’s Journey: From Regression to Recognition

At 11, Rohit faced severe cognitive regression. Once a bright child, he had lost basic comprehension, literacy, and emotional regulation after passing through three schools that focused more on managing behaviours than nurturing learning. He became disengaged, anxious, and unheard—his motivation shrinking with each passing year. Everything changed when he joined Sense Kaleidoscopes. Here, Rohit was met with a neuro-affirmative, art-integrated environment that saw his potential beyond his struggles. With structured visual learning, therapeutic support, and consistent mentoring, Rohit found his spark again—through art. He began to express himself, regulate better, and slowly rebuilt his ability to focus, learn, and connect.

He passed his 10th-grade NIOS exams independently and is currently preparing for his 12th. Today, Rohit is part of the Artist-in-Residence Program, where he continues to grow as a professional artist. His work has been showcased at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, the Paris Outsider Art Fair, and featured in international publications. With multiple pieces sold between ₹25,000 and ₹1,00,000, and a UNESCO “Not Just Art” award under his belt, Rohit’s journey is a powerful reminder: when learning environments are designed with care and conviction, even regression can lead to brilliance.

Have some questions?

My child is 23 and still very dependent. Can they even handle a program like this?

What if my child doesn’t talk much or avoids interacting with others?

My child doodles all day — but I don’t know if it’s “art.” Is that enough?

My child has developed some art skills — why do they need to “learn” again?

What are the minimum requirements — do they need a portfolio?

Is this program only for “high-functioning” autistic individuals?

Does this program only teach art?

Will my child learn life skills or professional skills too?

What kind of daily structure does the program follow?

Is there a routine, or is it free-flowing?

Will my child actually earn from their art? How much?

Who manages the finances? Will my child understand how to manage their earnings?

What happens to the money — do parents have access?

What kind of career or livelihood can this realistically lead to?

Will my child build friendships or a sense of belonging?

My child is often misunderstood — will they really feel accepted here?

What if they have meltdowns, shutdowns, or regress during the program?

Do you have mental health professionals or behaviour experts available?

What happens after the AIR program ends?

Why can’t my child just go to a regular art college?

Isn’t separating them from the mainstream limiting?

Are there other programs like this in India?

Why does India need an art college or AIR program just for neurodivergent artists?

Will society ever accept my child’s work as real art?

Who owns the art? Is it in my child’s name?

What legal systems are in place to protect my child’s rights?

Will my child be exploited in commissions or sales?

Can I stay involved in decisions — or do I need to hand everything over?

My child doesn’t understand contracts — how do you navigate that?

Can this program help my child feel proud of who they are?

What makes this program different from all the others we’ve tried?

Is there hope for my child to be seen as something more than “special needs”?

Can this change how the world sees them — and how they see themselves?

How is art taught differently here compared to mainstream or special education schools?

What role do neurodivergent voices play in shaping the curriculum?

Can art educators from traditional institutions learn from or collaborate with this model?

How do you train your curators and facilitators to work with neurodivergent learners?

Is the curriculum therapeutic in intent, or vocational and artistic?

What kind of student-teacher ratio or classroom structure is followed here?

What research or data supports this program’s outcomes?

Can this program be replicated in other cities or countries?

This program is more than a model
it's a movement

By redefining inclusive education through professional art training, it opens new pathways for neurodivergent and disabled individuals to thrive with dignity, purpose, and recognition.
